Hands-Only CPR Course
Description of skills
The Hands-Only CPR course is adult CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) without rescue breathing, aka “compression-only CPR”. Hands-Only CPR is only appropriate in situations where emergency services are minutes away to temporarily provide life support before transferring the patient to definitive care.
The course uses the standards defined by the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR). Within the United States, ILCOR standards are documented and advocated by the American Heart Association (AHA).

equivalency
The Hands-Only CPR course badge may be granted to members who have a current Adult Hands-Only CPR certification from classes outside the Mountaineers that satisfy the ILCOR/AHA standard. Examples include the American Heart Association "Family and Friends CPR" course or the American Red "Hands-Only CPR for Adults" course.
Mountaineers volunteers and staff are not medical professionals, and are not trained or authorized to evaluate medical skills. We are able to award the badge via equivalency based only on equivalent credentials.
