Clean & Lower

DESCRIPTION OF SKILLS

The holder of this badge has demonstrated proficiency in the following skills: 

Ability to perform a Clean & Lower, including:

• Remain on belay, passing the rope through the anchor chains/rings and securing to the harness
• Cleaning the top rope anchor hardware/cordage and any protection placed on a single pitch route
• Lower off the route by the belayer rather than rappelling. 

WHAT DOES THIS BADGE ALLOW ME TO DO?

Certain trips (such as Mountaineers Adventure Club trips) may require this badge as a prerequisite. 

Branch climbing committees may choose to use this badge to determine ability to clean a route during a trip. 

HOW DO I GET THIS BADGE?

This badge can be awarded as a part of the Mountaineers Adventure Club or;

This badge may be awarded by a branch climbing committee whose curriculum or coursework grants it.
