The holder of this badge has demonstrated proficiency in the following skills, as witnessed by a Mountaineers leader or designee.
- Assessing route, conditions and rock quality
- High quality placement of traditional protection including but not limited to cams and nuts
- Building gear anchors
- Understands proper gear spacing and gear extensions
WHAT DOES THIS BADGE ALLOW ME TO DO?
This badge allows the holder to participate in Intermediate Alpine Climbing trips when combined with the following additional badges:
- Leading Multipitch Routes
- Winter Mountaineering/Advanced Crevasse Rescue
- Basic Alpine Climbing Course
HOW DO I GET THIS BADGE?
Completion of an Intermediate Rock course or Single-Pitch Trad Module will grant this badge. Please check with your branch committee for course offerings.
