Rigging and Managing Canyon Rappels

DESCRIPTION OF SKILLS

The holder of this badge has demonstrated proficiency in rigging and managing canyon rappels. The holder has demonstrated:

• Ability to identify and build an appropriate anchor
• Rigging at least two types of releasable systems
• Releasing and re-setting a releasable system
• Rigging at least two types of fixed systems
• Coaching participants to rappel
• Ability to articulate the considerations for choosing the type of system to rig and the sequencing of party members
• Cleaning the anchor, rappelling, and retrieving the rope

WHAT DOES THIS BADGE ALLOW ME TO DO?

This badge is required to participate as an Assistant Canyon Leader, and is a pre-requisite for some advanced canyoning courses.

HOW DO I GET THIS BADGE?

This badge can be acquired through some beginning and most intermediate canyon courses. Those with prior experience can demonstrate proficiency to a Mountaineers Canyon Leader or Assistant Leader to receive the badge.
