Description of Skills
The holder of this badge has participated in an advanced crevasse rescue and winter mountaineering trip and has learned the following skills, as witnessed by a Mountaineers leader or designee.
- Assessing route, conditions and terrain quality (including avalanche conditions)
- Safe travel in winter conditions including emergency situations
- Building a variety of snow anchors including but limited to the use of pickets, flukes, bollards, improvised deadman style anchors
- Building and converting multiple hauling systems for crevasse rescue including but not limited to 3:1 z pulley, drop c-pulley and 6:1 haul systems.
WHAT DOES THIS BADGE ALLOW ME TO DO?
This badge allows the holder to participate in Intermediate Alpine Climbing trips when combined with the following additional badges:
- Leading Multipitch Routes
- Leading Trad Routes
- Winter Mountaineering/Advanced Crevasse Rescue
- Basic Alpine Climbing Course
HOW DO I GET THIS BADGE?
Completion of the Intermediate Glacier Travel Course or Module will grant this badge. Please check with your branch committee for course offerings.
